The story behind the Photo Galleries In September 1999, Art Deco World commenced a project intended to establish a unique online photographic record of as much of Sydney's extensive inter-war architectural heritage as was achievable by one person with an advanced digital camera and the occasional sunny weekend. Sixteen months later we are near to completing the first stage of this project - namely, the initial documentation of the 100 or so significant Deco buildings of various types that are located in central Sydney and it's nearby suburbs. We are not particularly interested in "documenting" the current status of the buildings featured in the traditional manner. Our interest is in securing a contemporary photographic image that presents each subject in as close to its original condition and context as possible. To this end the visual impositions of later accretions, adjacent buildings and contemporary streetscapes have either been avoided by judicious framing or else digitally removed. During 2000 the project took on a life of it's own, enabling us to document many of the significant Art Deco buildings of New York City and Chicago. In 2001 our major new focuses will be Melbourne - Australia's second-largest city both in terms of size and quantity of Art Deco architecture - and the national capital, Canberra. As always however our primary focus remains on Sydney - one of the largest, most important and - until recently - overlooked Art Deco cities outside of the United States. George Cruickshank |

Shipping: Because we specialise in smaller items, shipping costs are kept low, which is why our prices include airfreight shipping to anywhere in the world!
Payment: All items in our store are priced in Australian Dollars. US and European customers will find that a weak Australian Dollar (currently worth around 60 US cents) makes shopping at Art Deco World a pleasantly affordable exercise.
An automated currency converter is available for your convenience. Exchange rates will be calculated by your bank/credit card company at the time your order is processed.
For online transactions we accept payment only by credit card (Bankcard, VISA, Mastercard). If you would like to conduct your transaction offline or in person, we can accept bank cheques (Australian customers only), bank drafts in Australian Dollars, drawn on an Australian Bank (non- Australian customers) or via direct payment to our account.
Condition and description of goods: Because the items in our catalogue can range from 50 to 80 years old, customers need to be aware that despite the exacting quality standards we apply, some evidence of a long history of loving use may be evident.
In all cases we provide detailed descriptions of any observed faults, and additional photographs of any item can be emailed within 24 hours, on request.
Refunds: Of course if you are not satisfied that our description is accurate we'll happily refund your money (return shipping at your expense) if notified within 15 days of our shipping date.
Reproductions: We do not sell reproductions. All items in our store are guaranteed to be authentic and original. In some cases pieces may be fully or partially restored, as noted in their description.
We buy as well! We are always on the lookout for new items for our store, so if you've found something in the attic you think we might be interested in buying, send us some details by email, and we'll be happy to respond quickly and honestly.
