Residential Buildings Residential buildings - particularly apartment buildings - are Sydney's most prevalent manifestations of the Art Deco style. The most imposing and historically significant examples are concentrated almost exclusively in the adjacent inner city precincts of Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay, which together boast the highest density of Art Deco architecture to be found anywhere in Australia. In addition, hundreds of smaller apartment blocks and bungalows can be found scattered throughout the ring of suburbs which lie within 20 km of the city centre. These are generally located in the vicinity of the city's railway corridors, along which most inter-war suburban residential development occurred. This page features an introduction to some of the former, however in time we intend to provide a more balanced overview along with more substantial information, so be sure to revisit. |
