Chicago, Illinois

Whilst New York is the adoptive home of the modern skyscraper, Chicago was its birthplace, and as a consequence the midwestern metropolis on the shores of Lake Michigan boasts a legacy of some of the finest Art Deco buildings in the United States.

Chicagoans are justifiably proud of their architectural heritage, and the Chicago Architecture Foundation undertakes regular tours, lectures and exhibitions which include most of the buildings on this page. For further historical information and photographs be sure to also visit the Chicago Landmarks site, which includes an alphabetical list of noteworthy buildings.
