Cassandre is known mostly for his advertising posters, the most famous of which is that for the 1930's French ocean liner Normandie.

Tamara de Lempicka was a glamorous Polish emigre who socialised with and painted the portraits of the rich and famous in Europe and the United States, and whose indulgent lifestyle seems in many ways to embody the spirit of the inter-war period.
